“No central CGPA minimum” does not mean “low grades accepted.” A university can apply a grade requirement, and competitive selection can weigh academic results heavily.

About scholarships for Pakistani students with low CGPA

A lower CGPA narrows your choices, but it does not answer the whole eligibility question. The useful first step is to separate hard entry conditions from selection factors. A published minimum is usually a hard screen. A strong research plan, relevant work, a portfolio, a better final-year record, or a documented class rank may strengthen an application, but should not be treated as a substitute for a requirement you do not meet.

The six routes below are not six “low GPA scholarships.” They are distinct programmes whose rules vary by country, degree, institution, and annual call. Some may be worth checking if the official programme leaves admission decisions to its universities. Others publish a clear academic threshold. Several specific calls in the source brief are now closed.

For a separate language-test question, see our guide to fully funded scholarships without IELTS for Pakistani students. IELTS rules and academic-grade rules are different. Browse the Guides category for related application advice. If you already hold a master’s degree and want a research route, the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship 2027–28 is a separate postgraduate research award with a Pakistan deadline of 31 October 2026; it is not a low-CGPA waiver, so check the live eligibility and grade requirements.

Scholarships for Pakistani students with low CGPA: routes to assess

1. Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters: check each consortium

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are coordinated by higher-education institutions in different countries. The European Commission says applicants need a bachelor’s degree, be in their final year and graduate before the master’s starts, or hold an officially recognised equivalent level of learning. Applicants apply directly to the institution or consortium running the selected master’s.

The Commission does not set one CGPA cut-off for every joint master. The consortium’s own admissions page determines the accepted prior subjects, grade expectations, language evidence, documents, selection stages, and deadline. For a low-grade applicant, this means researching a specific course, not relying on a generic claim that Erasmus Mundus accepts a particular GPA.

Scholarships are available for outstanding students, but the catalogue does not mean every listed course currently has scholarship funding. Check the current consortium call and confirm that scholarship places are offered for the intake you want. The Commission describes support as covering participation costs and contributing to travel, visa, and living costs; the exact terms belong to the programme’s current call.

What makes this route different: application goes to the consortium, programme criteria are course-specific, and catalogue presence alone does not prove a scholarship is available this year. The Commission reported in July 2026 that newly selected masters were expected to open student applications in autumn 2026; this is not a universal opening date or deadline.

Best next step: shortlist only courses whose official entry rules you meet. Check scholarship availability, grade conversion, and the deadline on each consortium’s own website before preparing a full application.

2. MEXT Research Scholarship: FY2027 Pakistan call is closed

The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan marked its Research Scholarship for the 2027 intake closed. The application deadline was 26 May 2026, and the Embassy stated that shortlisted applicants had been contacted. Do not use that expired date as an upcoming deadline or submit to an unofficial intermediary.

The Pakistan call does not publish a blanket low-CGPA waiver or a Pakistan-wide numeric CGPA cutoff. It requires a relevant academic background and a research plan, and applicants must meet the academic background and admission conditions for their intended graduate course in Japan. A university may set its own standard. The global FY2027 guidelines also describe embassy screening, written language tests and interview, requests for provisional university acceptance, placement review, and final MEXT screening. Passing the Embassy’s first screen is not a scholarship guarantee.

The Embassy’s required documents include academic records and degree evidence, a research plan, recommendation letters, and other materials depending on the applicant’s background. The official Pakistan instructions say incomplete applications are not considered and documents are not returned. Follow the Embassy’s next-cycle page for the correct territorial route and forms; the FY2027 application window has ended.

What makes this route different: it is a research-based graduate route rather than a general degree scholarship; the application begins with Pakistan’s Embassy/Consulate instructions; and shortlisted candidates proceed through university-placement and MEXT stages after the local first screening.

Funding note: FY2027 guidelines specify course-dependent monthly allowances, fee waivers, and conditional economy-class airfare. These terms are cycle-specific and conditional. Do not assume that the closed FY2027 package will be identical in another year.

3. Global Korea Scholarship: distinguish GKS-U from graduate calls

The supplied 2027 guideline is for GKS-U, the undergraduate and associate-degree programme. It is not the graduate-degree GKS call. The 2027 GKS-U guideline requires applicants to meet at least one of three academic conditions: 80/100 or higher, a class rank in the top 20%, or the stated CGPA equivalent (including 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0).

A result below one CGPA conversion does not automatically qualify. An applicant would need to meet another accepted condition, such as a documented top-20% rank, if permitted by the guideline. Use the official grading rules and institutional evidence; do not rely on an online CGPA converter.

For 2027 GKS-U, the Embassy Track online application window ended on 30 September 2026 at 18:00 Korea Standard Time. Pakistan had a small Embassy Track allocation in the guideline. The University Track follows participating universities’ individual deadlines, which fall in a stated September–November period; check the target university to see whether its window remains open. Applicants apply through the route’s specified first-round institution, then proceed through NIIED review and, for Embassy Track, a university admission stage.

What makes this route different: this 2027 source is undergraduate-only; it publishes an explicit multi-path grade test; and its Embassy and University tracks have different application destinations and deadlines.

4. Stipendium Hungaricum through HEC: next call must be rechecked

The 2026–27 Stipendium Hungaricum call through HEC Pakistan closed on 15 January 2026. It should be presented as a preparation route for a future call, not as an open application.

HEC’s eligibility material does not state one universal CGPA minimum for every listed degree and field. That is not a low-grade guarantee. The selected Hungarian university sets programme admission requirements, and the 2026–27 Pakistan route also required a valid HAT or USAT score of at least 50%. Applicants had to submit to both the Hungarian Tempus Public Foundation application system and HEC. HEC nomination was not the final award decision; the final scholarship decision rested with Tempus Public Foundation.

The programme’s published benefits include tuition exemption, a monthly stipend, accommodation support (a dormitory place subject to availability or a housing contribution), and health-insurance support. The programme says these are contributions and may not cover all living costs. Check the next call for its exact rates, eligible fields, tests, documents, and dates; do not copy the previous cycle’s figures as current.

What makes this route different: two portal submissions are required; HEC nomination and final award are separate; and host-university admission rules remain decisive even when HEC does not publish a universal CGPA floor.

5. Chinese Government Scholarship through HEC: university admission is a separate filter

The HEC 2026–27 Chinese Government Scholarship route listed 75 places and closed on 5 January 2026. HEC’s pages do not state a single CGPA minimum for every applicant, university, and field. They do require candidates to meet the chosen university’s academic eligibility and admission conditions. HEC also required the applicable HAT or USAT score to be at least 50/100.

For the HEC Type-A route, the process used both the HEC portal and the Chinese scholarship system. HEC reviewed and nominated candidates; the Chinese side and universities then conducted further review and placement. HEC pages differed on a CSC agency-number label and on whether pre-admission evidence was mandatory or preferred for some graduate applicants. Those details must be confirmed in the live call and portal before a new application. Do not copy a previous-cycle agency code or submission checklist without checking.

HEC describes coverage as tuition and specified health-insurance costs, a dormitory place or housing subsidy, and a stipend under Chinese Government Scholarship policy. It says awardees pay travel. The cited HEC page does not give a stipend amount, so this guide does not estimate one.

What makes this route different: HEC’s central page is not the university’s admission decision; the application has two systems; and some supporting documents are staged for shortlisted or nominated applicants rather than requested at the initial form stage.

6. DAAD: search named awards, not a supposed low-CGPA scheme

DAAD is an umbrella for many scholarships and research grants, not one award with one GPA rule or Pakistani application route. DAAD instructs applicants to read the individual call. The EPOS development-related postgraduate programme, for example, expects above-average academic results and relevant professional experience; it is not a sensible option to market as a low-CGPA shortcut.

DAAD Pakistan’s listings have programme-specific eligibility, application destinations, documents, and deadlines. On the date checked, some listed 2026 opportunities had already passed their deadlines, while a Fine Art, Design, Visual Communication, and Film call showed 15 October 2026. Verify the live programme database and the course page before treating any listing as open. That single date does not apply to all DAAD awards.

What makes this route different: criteria and application routes vary by scholarship; EPOS expects strong academic results and relevant experience; and the applicant may apply to a named course first rather than send a generic application to DAAD.

Eligibility checklist before you shortlist

Use this checklist for scholarships for Pakistani students with low CGPA before you spend time on essays or pay for tests:

  • Identify the exact award, degree level, intake, and application track. Do not mix an undergraduate call with a graduate one.
  • Read the official university or consortium admission page as well as the funder’s page.
  • Check whether there is a hard grade threshold, accepted alternative such as class rank, and an official grading-scale document requirement.
  • Confirm your previous degree subject, duration, completion date, age, nationality, and residence conditions.
  • Check language evidence and tests separately from academic grades.
  • Confirm whether you apply through an embassy, HEC, university, consortium, or multiple portals.
  • Distinguish initial application documents from documents requested only after shortlisting or nomination.
  • Record the deadline, time zone, and any earlier university or nomination deadline.
  • Confirm that the specific programme has scholarship funding for the intake; a catalogue listing is not enough.

How to apply with a lower CGPA

  1. Start with the published rule. If your grades miss a stated minimum, do not assume work experience or a persuasive letter will cancel it.
  2. Shortlist courses, not labels. Where central guidance leaves criteria to institutions, compare actual university and consortium requirements.
  3. Get official grading evidence. Request your transcript, grading-scale explanation, percentage equivalent, or class-rank certificate from your institution when the call accepts it.
  4. Explain the record briefly and factually. If there was a clear interruption or improvement, describe it without making unsupported claims. Then point to evidence of readiness: relevant work, research, projects, later grades, or prerequisite courses.
  5. Strengthen required tests and documents. A required HAT/USAT, language score, research proposal, portfolio, or references should be prepared to the stated standard.
  6. Check application ownership. Confirm who receives each form and whether a second portal or nomination stage is required.
  7. Track the current cycle. The MEXT FY2027, GKS-U 2027 Embassy Track, Stipendium Hungaricum 2026–27, and Chinese Government Scholarship 2026–27 windows discussed above have closed as of 8 October 2026.
  8. Apply only when eligible. A large number of applications cannot compensate for an unmet mandatory rule.

Insider insights: common low-CGPA application mistakes

The most common error is treating an unpublished CGPA floor as evidence that any GPA is acceptable. It only means you need to read the target university or programme’s criteria. Erasmus Mundus consortia and Chinese or Hungarian host universities can impose their own entry rules.

Another mistake is mixing calls. The 2027 GKS document in this comparison is for undergraduate study. MEXT FY2027 and the HEC 2026–27 calls have already closed. A guide that omits those distinctions can send applicants to expired forms or the wrong degree route.

Do not convert grades with an unofficial calculator and report the result as if the scholarship authority approved it. GKS provides its own threshold and documentation guidance. Ask your university for official proof where needed.

Finally, a scholarship award’s coverage is not always the same as a full living-cost guarantee. Erasmus Mundus terms vary by programme, the Hungarian contribution may not cover all expenses, and the cited HEC page does not publish a Chinese scholarship stipend amount. Read the current award conditions before planning a budget.

Deadlines and timeline

As checked on 8 October 2026, the MEXT FY2027 Research Scholarship in Pakistan, the GKS-U 2027 Embassy Track, the Stipendium Hungaricum 2026–27 call, and the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship 2026–27 call have closed. DAAD deadlines are award-specific; at least one Pakistan listing showed a 15 October 2026 deadline, which is imminent and must be confirmed on the live official page. Erasmus Mundus course deadlines vary; autumn 2026 is a general opening pattern, not a universal deadline.

No next-cycle date is stated here unless an official source has announced one. Check the responsible programme or agency for the next call. A practical preparation window is several months before a likely cycle: collect grade evidence, plan tests, request references, and check admission criteria early. This is planning advice, not an official deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a fully funded scholarship with a 2.5 CGPA from Pakistan?

Possibly, but there is no universal answer. A 2.5 CGPA may be below a published threshold for one call and still be reviewed under another programme’s rules. Check the exact grade scale, course admission rule, degree level, funding call, and current deadline. No route listed here guarantees selection.

Which scholarship is best for Pakistani students with low CGPA?

There is no single best scholarship. Start with a specific course whose official grade and subject requirements you meet. Erasmus Mundus criteria vary by consortium; GKS-U 2027 publishes a defined academic threshold; and HEC routes still rely on host-university admission rules. Also check whether the cycle is open.

Does work experience cancel out a low CGPA?

Usually, no. Relevant experience can strengthen an application where the call considers it, but it does not normally remove a stated minimum. Some DAAD EPOS calls also expect above-average academic performance, so experience alone is not a substitute.

Should I apply if the scholarship page does not mention CGPA?

Only after checking the university or programme’s own admission rules. No central CGPA figure does not mean every applicant is eligible or that grades do not affect selection.

One practical next step

If you are unsure which routes match your transcript, degree field, tests, and experience, consider TheOpportunity.pk’s Profile Review service. It reviews your transcript and goals, provides written CV feedback, matches three opportunities, and gives a six-month action plan. It is guidance, not a scholarship or admission guarantee.
